An Important Update from Future Academies

Having returned from the half-term break, we were informed by the National Education Union (NEU) this morning that, despite our ongoing negotiations through Acas, the members intend to proceed with industrial action on Tuesday, 8th June. We are disappointed that, despite our commitment to ongoing, constructive discussions, the NEU has decided to initiate this course of action. Future Academies would like to reiterate our commitment to resolving this matter. Our students have already faced enough disruption to learning this year due to the pandemic.

The members of the NEU at Pimlico Academy presented a list of 41 individual requests and, as a result of our negotiations and mediation through Acas, 85% have been agreed to in-full or in-part, 5% are no longer applicable and 10% cannot be resolved. The outstanding substantive issue is around teaching hours. We would like to inform parents and carers that our teachers at Pimlico Academy have lighter teaching loads than in a large proportion of other schools. We would remind NEU members that action such as this should be a last resort and directly harms our students.

Despite the planned strike action, the school will be open tomorrow to pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9, and we would like to thank those staff taking on the extra responsibility to allow us to do this. We are determined that this action will have minimal impact on our students who have already missed out on enough in-school education due to Covid-19.
